Job Description:

Summary Responsible to safely and efficiently transport passengers in bus or company provided vehicle over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Work with individuals with special needs.
• Possess the ability to assist passengers with packages, on and off vehicle.
• Possess the ability to assist passengers, who request assistance, on and off vehicles through means of handicap equipment or physical means.
• Possess the ability to add and subtract when collecting and recording tickets or cash fares.
• Possess the ability to bend, kneel and crouch when securing passenger wheelchair and/or scooter.
• Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
• Comply with traffic and safety regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
• Possess the ability to differentiate sounds in pitch and loudness.
• Possess the ability to quickly respond with hands, fingers, or foot signal..

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Minimal computer skills required
• Knowledge of the territory, friendly nature.
• Must possess a courteous attitude towards clients, public and fellow co-workers.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is required to:
• Frequently required to stand, walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear.
• Frequently required to balance.
• Possess the ability to lift, carry or move up to 50 pounds. In the event of an emergency evacuation, employee must possess the ability to lift or carry up to 200 pounds.
• Possess the ability to bend, twist, or lift above chest a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Possess the ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with back, arms, legs, or full body.
• Possess the ability to repetitively lift, pull, reach, or bend.
• Possess the ability to rotate neck 80 degrees to the left and right, as well as bring chin to chest and tilt 20 degrees in extension.

Company Information

Successful Driver Applicants:
• Must have or be able to obtain an IL Class C CDL with Passenger Endorsement. If hired without CDL license applicant must be able to obtain permit, must be able to provide DMV with proof of legal residence
• Will participate in Drug and Alcohol testing program, including negative pre-employment test.
• Will be required to provide previous DOT drug testing information
• Will provide current MVR, good driving history for previous 7 years
• Will submit to criminal history background check
• Minimum 21 years of age
• SCT provides transportation for Federal and State programs and therefore may not hire persons with felony convictions on their record
• No DUI convictions within the past 7 years
• Drivers must meet DOT physical qualifications (49 CFR 391.41)
• Driving positions have physical requirements due to the need to safely evacuate passengers in an emergency, assist wheelchair passengers and other disabled passengers as required by the ADA regulations. Drivers must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and be able to bend, stoop and kneel to secure wheelchairs.

New drivers will complete the SCT driver training program and CDL training and testing at the start of their employment
